Abstract
Small industry is regarded as one of the major planks of India’s economic development strategy since independence. Today, small industry occupies a position of strategic importance in the Indian economic structure due to its significant contribution in terms of output, exports and employment. Their scope is very wide ranging from economic role such as employment generation, fostering balance resource utilization, removing regional inequalities and disparities and generating income etc. to socio-political role by transforming the society in a gradual and sustainable manner. The present study on industrial growth for small industries in a developing region of the north east is not only essential for solving the problems of industrial development but also to tackle the problem of unemployment and mobilization of resources from traditional avenues of investment to new opportunities in the globalized economy and prevention of waste of economic resources. In this backdrop, the present study attempt to analyses the pattern of growth in the process of industrialization in North East India taking into consideration some important parameters of industrial growth.
